Traditional Thai massage has its origins in the combination of the ancient Indian medicine (Ayurveda and Yoga) and the Buddhist discipline. It is based on the concept that the human body is crossed by energy channels, called Sen, where Vital Energy flows. These channels are a purely energetic body, distinct, but intertwined with the physical body. Health and wellness are the result of a mind in balance with the body. Vital Energy works as a link between the mind and the body. But nerve tensions, muscular contractions, mental stress or negative emotions may block the energy channels, preventing Vital Energy to flow correctly through the body. When the Vital energy does not circulate properly in the energy channels, the body undergoes imbalances which can lead to diseases. Traditional Thai massage works on the energy channels unblocking them and, at the same time, on skeleton and muscles, inducing benefits on both the physical and the mental and emotional sphere. While performing Traditional Thai massage, masseurs use different parts of their bodies (hands, thumbs and fingers, palms, elbows, forearms, feet, heels, knees) to perform various manipulations on the musculoskeletal structure of the massaged, pressing specific points and massage lines (corresponding to the Sibs), in order to alleviate any tension and bring mind and body back into their original balance.
